Neil | Founder of Present Tense
I am a retired academic who spent my career analyzing change—specifically, how organizations and people behave under extreme uncertainty. After decades in the lecture hall, I’ve moved my focus from the classroom to the library.
I started Present Tense because I became disillusioned with the “hollow language of progress.” In an era of breakneck technological and geopolitical shifts, we need more than just information; we need clarity and reflection.
My Approach:
I believe that contemporary books are the primary battlefield for ideas. I read them with a critical eye, looking past the hype to find the ethical and practical implications underneath. I value humility over confidence and evidence over narrative.
When I’m not reading or writing, I’m seeking out that “little bit of stillness” required to see the present clearly.
Let’s think clearly together.
